Six Female Friendships From TV That Make You Want to Have a Girls Night

Everyone: set down your pumpkin spice lattes for just a moment because I have some exciting news to share. We are on the cusp of fall premiere week on TV! It might not seem like the biggest deal in the word, BUT it’s the time of the year where I get to sit down and judge all of the new/old shows premiering on television for a week. In honor of my five day lie-in and since nobody asked, I thought I would put together some of my favorite best friends from television shows that I’ve grown to love over the years.

1. Meredith and Christina (Grey’s Anatomy)
If it wasn’t for them, I wouldn’t have an excuse to call my best friend My Person. We watched Meredith and Christina be there for each other when life got dark and twisty. (Burke leaving Christina at the altar and everything that’s ever happened in Meredith’s life.) I am still hoping for a Meredith and Christina reunion because we deserve it, damn it.

2. Nico, Wendy and Victory (Lipstick Jungle)
Honestly, Lipstick Jungle didn’t get half the credit it deserved. Sure, at times it was a poor man’s Sex and the City, but the show was at its best when it focused on the chemistry of the three women. Nico, Wendy and Victory showed us that your best friends are the only thing that keeps you sane at times. I’m still waiting for a reboot with the original cast, so get on it, NBC.

3. Blair and Serena (Gossip Girl)
Blair and Serena are the ultimate blond and her brunette best friend example. Known to each other as B and S, Serena and Blair fought and made up through all six seasons of Gossip Girl. Blair was always there to question Serena’s choices in men and Serena was always there to remind Blair to take life one scheme at a time. OH, THE FEELS!

4. Poussey and Taystee (Orange is the New Black)
This one still hurts, tbh. I’m not going to spoil anything for you, so don’t worry! For me, this friendship was one of the best parts of OITNB (with Piper being the worst, obviously.) Taystee brought out the goofy side of Poussey, with one of their running jokes was making fun of rich, white people and their “problems.” Taystee and Poussey made prison livable for each other, which says a lot.

5. Monica and Rachel (Friends)
Even though they are on everyone’s list, they should be. Monica and Rachel were friends before #friendshipgoals was even a thing, and they embody it perfectly. Monica stuck by Rachel through the ENDLESS breakup and makeups with Ross (sigh) and Rachel coped with Monica’s obsessiveness. They loved each other liked sisters and bickered like them too.

6. Beckett and Lanie (Castle)
The friendship between Kate Beckett and medical examiner Lanie Parrish is probably the most underrated on my list. Even though Lanie was merely a side character on the show, she provided plenty of hilarious commentary to Beckett about her relationship with Castle. In fact, if it wasn’t for Lanie calling Beckett out on her crap, we might’ve never had Caskett. So, on behalf of Castle fans everywhere, thanks Lanie!

Now that you have seen my favorite best friends, it’s time to show me yours. Leave a comment below with your favorite female best friend duo or trio. Thanks for reading!

  1. Happy Galentine’s Day to Outlander’s Claire and Geillis! Remember that one time Claire… when you two spent the night in the witch dungeon, and your bestie helped you escape by telling the world she was having a demon baby? I miss you two.
